Spore Galactic EditionSpore, one of the most anticipated games this year, is getting its own National Geographic TV special. The “How to Build a Better Being,” premieres Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 10 PM ET/PT.

That’s two days after the game is finally released. Gamers have been excited about the game since 2005, when creator Will Wright showed a demo at a Game Developers Conference. Wright, as many know, also created SimCity and The Sims.

Where The Sims lets you play house, Spore lets you play the absolute creator. Life starts with the itty-bitty spore and swells into an entire universe, complete with UFO’s and whatever else creative players dream up with the game’s tools. Publisher Electronic Arts released “Spore Creature Creator” last week, which gives gamers a head start on creating characters for the game, which comes out Sept. 7, 2008 for $49.99.

But what games gets its own National Geographic special? The science channel will explore the science and behind the theories of the game.

To commemorate the TV special, Electronic Arts is releasing ‘Galactic Edition’ of Spore for $79.99. The limited-edition box will contain the DVD of the National Geographic show, plus “The Art of Spore” hardback book, a fold-out Spore poster and the 100-page Galactic Handbook. The special edition of the game goes on sale Sept. 7.
