Update: BlizzCon tickets sold out!

May 16th, 2009, 9:06 am · 1 Comment · posted by jsimmons

BlizzCon tickets sold out at 10:28 a.m., about a half hour after sales opened. Congratulations to those who nabbed the coveted tickets, and our condolences to those who couldn’t — try again on May 30 for the second batch!

On our end, the queue seemed really smooth; Blizzard spokesman Bob Colayco said it felt that way at Blizzard headquarters, too.

“From what we could tell, the system worked smoothly and we were all glad there were no issues,” he wrote in an e-mail. Still, he cautioned that he wasn’t in the tech room: “That’s strictly a personal and anecdotal analysis. I’m sure our tech people are doing a much more sophisticated analysis of how it all went down since this is the first time implementing this system.”

Blizzard never posted any updates that the queue had opened on its front page, but the BlizzCon page did get one (after it was too late to have a chance at the tickets, though).

Update — the tickets are on sale in the Blizzard Store! You can find it here: Blizzard Store or from Blizzard’s Web site, www.blizzard.com, and clicking on “Blizzard Store.”

At 10:15 a.m., we entered the queue just to see what the wait was — over 1 hour wait, with over half the stock already sold! In a few minutes, that stock had dwindled to about a third.

Still no updates on the BlizzCon or Blizzard pages, though.

Well, we waited just a few minute after 10 — five minutes, to be exact — and Blizzard hasn’t posted its ticket queue yet. We’re keeping an eye on the BlizzCon and Blizzard Web sites, and we’ll let you know when the queue goes live — and we’ll try to figure out why it was delayed if it doesn’t go up soon.

That’s not how it works. The ticket queue is visible to people who are actually IN the system trying to buy tickets. It’s not visible to people just looking at the website.
