Promo doesn’t do ‘Fallout 3′ justice

JoeAfter watching the promo for “Fallout 3″ on G4 yesterday, I was less than enthused. It looked a little clunky, to be honest, and it certainly didn’t seem that appealing.

I was wrong. So very, very wrong.

I got some hands-on time with Bethesda’s revamp of the Fallout series today, and it’s gorgeous. What looked muddy on the G4 broadcast was vibrant and full of life.

EteRnal PAL mugMicrosoft held its press conference this morning with a boatload of announcements and information, covering all types of gamers, from the hardcore to the casual — including some exciting news for Square Enix fans.

“Fallout 3,” “Resident Evil 5,” “Fable 2″ and “Gears of War 2″ were all demoed live to the crowd.

Downloadable content for “Fallout 3″ was said to be exclusive to Xbox 360 and Games For Windows.

“Resident Evil 5″ was revealed to contain online co-op with a simultaneous worldwide release of March 13, 2009.

Game Rover at E3 2008Online co-op was also already announced for “Fable 2,” but the cool thing that was shown was that you will now see your friends going through their single-player quests in the shape of a purple orb.  You can go up to the orb and invite them instantly into your game if your characters are in the same area. Neat!

“Fable 2″ is finished and will be released October 2008.  A release date of Nov. 7, 2008 has also been confirmed for one of Microsoft’s vanguard titles, “Gears of War 2.”  A new mode called Horde was also introduced. It consists of a five-player co-op mode where gamers must fight off the Locust onslaught for as long as possible.

Review: Does “Ninja Gaiden II” slice its competition with ease?

July 11th, 2008, 7:43 pm by

EteRnal PAL mugIn the wake of Tomonobu Itagaki’s departure from Team Ninja/Tecmo, fans of the Ninja Gaiden series are left with a bittersweet sequel in Ninja Gaiden II, an exclusive title for the Xbox 360.  The game is as fast, frenetic and tough as the original Xbox game; unfortunately, the same issues that plagued the previous game snuck in there as well.

Let’s get the unpleasant problems out of the way.  It’s dreadfully disappointing that the same camera system from the first game was left intact.  Be prepared to deal with it getting stuck behind walls and objects quite often.  Players will be left fighting the camera controls almost as much as their enemies.  Veteran players know the drill and shouldn’t have too many problems with it though.

Ninja Gaiden IIFor the graphics, Team Ninja opted to stick to a similar art style like the Dead or Alive series, where the characters are very smooth and glossy without much detail.  It’s kind of disappointing that there is no “WOW” factor like the original Ninja Gaiden.  That’s not to say that the visuals are terrible, they just don’t scream next-gen.  Thankfully, the game does run at a blazing 60 frames per second making the action look buttery smooth… most of the time.  There will be a few situations where the game will slow down due to having an intense amount of enemies on screen all vying to deal the deathblow to Ryu Hayabusa.
